Pam was always going to be an interesting Personal Training client. Like all new members who join CFMR, I eased into her Free Intro session with our standard questions to find out how best we could help her.
What are your two main fitness goals?
“Being 60+ I want to be able to stay fit enough to look after my Grandkids. Living alone now, I want to be able to live independently for as long as I can”.
Has a gym program ever helped you before?
“Nope, I use to play Tennis, but never been to a Gym. The most active I am these days is watching a spicy Netflix series”. I raised my eyebrows, had a brief chuckle and kept asking questions.
Would you prefer to work in a group or do personal training?
She quickly replied - “I would rather the personal attention of a private session”.
How will your life improve by achieving your fitness goals?
Then Pam dropped it; “to be honest I’m here to get a few more matches on TINDER”. Then she went on, “so when do we start personal training”? Keen to get into it.
At CFMR we give each new member a unique fitness prescription to help them achieve their goals fast and safely. We both decided we would start with twice weekly personal training and occasional a free Yoga class, when it wasn’t too cold at nite.
Every time I coach Pam, it dawns upon me how scalable CrossFit is for people of all ages - young and young at heart. Pam now has changed her prescription to attend once weekly, is still living independently and regularly takes her grandson to skate park and shopping for toys.
I never have asked her again about her Tinder account, but some things are best left a mystery.
