Rachel's CrossFit Journey
CrossFit Journey Interview
When did you start CrossFit?
December 2020
What were your initial thoughts about joining or not joining?
I’d wanted to join since watching a documentary around five years ago...but I just couldn’t find a gym close enough to home or work to fit into my routine. It took me around ten months to join CFMR after moving to Margs and that was due to having a young child and also telling myself I was already active enough :)
I finally signed up after realising I was nowhere near as fit as I thought I was and also to have a hobby doing something active that I could commit to.
Can you remember how you felt in your first few weeks?
I’m a bit uncoordinated so I found my head was spinning trying to remember all the movements and tips from the coaches. I was also really nervous and self-conscious the first few workouts and being the ‘new one’. It didn’t take long for the nerves to fall away and realise that everyone works to their own abilities. The coaches and other members are nothing but supportive and fun and now I don’t even care if I’m stood at the front of a class ;)
What do you love most about CFMR and your CrossFit Journey?
Three things...Getting stronger!! I love being able to use to use it in real life and also seeing those Personal Best’s come through. The friendships I’ve made...truly some of the loveliest people ever-coaches and members. Nic and Ben have built an incredible community around this gym. Feeling a little more body-confident and clothes fitting properly!
What would you say to someone who is thinking about joining CFMR, but hasn’t yet?
Come along and meet a coach, watch a workout, chat to some members. It’s such a welcoming place and it really is a fun way to get fit. Give it a try and you just might be hooked!
